Bệnh nhân người Anh nhận được 12 đề cử, qua đó trở thành phim giành nhiều đề cử nhất; Fargo và Shine giành 7 đề cử mỗi phim.

Tại lễ trao giải, với chiến thắng của Bệnh nhân người Anh, Saul Zaentz là nhà sản xuất đầu tiên có 3 phim giành giải phim hay nhất, hai phim trước gồm có Bay trên tổ chim cúc cu và Amadeus.[8]
